A Memorial concert
Featuring young artists from the Bay Area plus special guests, to benefit music education.
The Foontastic Fundraiser for Music Education brings together a variety of musical performances ranging from classical and percussion to rock, soul, and jazz. What unifies us is our love of music and support for youth in our community, and to remember and celebrate the life of Neel Foon.
In 2022, our goal was to raise enough funds to be able to endow the “Fly Me to the Foon” Scholarship fund. We raised close to $50K. We will designate that fund this coming year. We are so grateful that our community comes out to support young musicians each year. For 2023 we will not be holding a fundraising concert but stay tuned to hear from our 2023 scholarship winners.
About the Fundraiser
In memory of Neel Thomas Foon, our family created two funds at the schools he attended from pre-school through high school: The Foontastic Music and Arts Fund at the Montessori Family School in El Cerrito, CA, and The Fly Me to the Foon Scholarship for students in the Instrumental Music department at Oakland School for the Arts, a performing arts high school in Oakland, CA.
What better way to honor Neel than by creating opportunities for other students to find their joy and passion through music. These funds allow students to enrich their lives through playing, listening, and learning about the art of music in an educational setting. Through private music lessons, inspiring guest speakers, and field trips to musical events, or being able to purchase a new instrument, students have the opportunity to find their own voice. Through these experiences they find connection with each other, their communities, and the world at large.
